Excellence Carpet Cleaning

Why regular carpet & upholstery cleaning is necessary

- Similar to clothes; carpets and upholstered goods need regular washing to keep them fresh and hygienic.

- Accumulated dust, soil and grit are major causes of reduced carpet and fabric lifespan. When we walk on carpet with grit or soil, the carpet fibres are cut and over time the carpets start to wear thin.

- We only see a small fraction of the dust and soil that a carpet can contain. Visible grime is only the tip of the iceberg. Up to 85% of the dirt is buried under the pile. A carpet can contain up to it’s own weight in soil, dust and accumulated debris - as much as 150 lbs for an average sized living room.

- The cost of replacing a carpet is much more expensive than having it regularly cleaned and does not involve the process of removing all furniture from the room as the laying of a new carpet requires.

- Unless carpets and upholstery are regularly cleaned, unpleasant odours may occur.

- There are significant health issues associated with the dust found in your home. As a professional carpet and upholstery cleaning company we feel it is our responsibility to make you aware of these issues. We have detailed these issues below.

Health issues

Dead skin and dust mites

80 - 90% of the dust in your house will be made up of the dead skin we shed every day - we shed a layer of skin every 3 days. Dust mites feed on this skin to survive and live happily in your carpets and upholstery. Their faeces contain allergen that attacks the lining of the lung and allows more allergen to attach to the inner lining. This is what causes allergy issues and asthma attacks.

Unfortunately dust mites reproduce at an alarmingly high rate and produce around 20 droppings per day (200 times their body weight). Dust Mite excriment triggers most respitory allergies such as asthma and is the single biggest cause of eczema and chronic rhinitis, the sneezing and runny nose associated with allergies.

Chemicals found in ‘Sick of Dust’ study

The recent ‘Sick of Dust’ study tested household dust from 70 average homes. It revealed that there were a variety of dangerous chemicals in the dust of the average home created from everyday products. It goes onto discuss their health risks. The 6 main chemicals found in the study were as follows:

2.Organotin compounds
3.Perfluorinated organics
6.Polybrominated dephenyl ethers

There are various health risks associated with these chemicals according to the report. Please review the report from the link below To discover more about the health risks of the chemicals discovered you may review the report via the link below.

Vacuuming Is Not Enough

Regular vacuuming is a necessity as it will keep your carpets clean and hygienic. However, most domestic vacuum cleaners, shampooers and steamers, even the more powerful ones, haven't got what it takes to get rid of that deep-down dirt, dust or nasty germs. This is a job for the professionals, who have the best equipment, training and experience to know how best to get your home clean and healthy.

Professional recommendations

Taking into consideration the information above, carpet and upholstery manufacturers and the carpet cleaning professional bodies IICRC and NCCA recommend that carpets and upholstery are professionally cleaned by a qualified technician every 6 – 18 months, depending on usage and size of family/pets.

We would also recommend applying a Promite protector on all carpets and upholstery. This acts as an invisible shield that protects the carpet from water and oil based stains and also lowers the resoiling and wear rate. We have never been unable to get rid of a stain on a carpet that has been protected with Promite. Further to this, dust mites cannot live in fabrics treated with the protector on for 10-14 months, meaning that your home is instantly healthier and dramatically helping those with allergy issues.
